About the Artist

Pheona graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1980, and later studied classical painting at the Florence School of Art.Since graduating she has exhibited regularly in group, 2 and 3 person shows throughout Britain and is a member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists (GSWA). She is now an internationally acclaimed artist having her work featured in an 'International Artist' publication.
Her paintings are portraits or figurative in style with a love of drama and colour. She is influenced by the traditional painting techniques of the old masters and the classical tradition and has a healthy respect for a more colourist approach.
Her empathy with her subject is evident and her work concentrates on the challenges of shadow and light on the human form.
She paints in oils, water colour and pastels and her commissioned portraits are in the collection of many art lovers.
Pheona is also an accomplished sculptor with commissioned work by Glasgow City Council.
She is an excellent communicator and experienced art tutor, teaching various art diciplines for higher educational institutions. Her main teaching work is in Strathclyde University's Centre for Lifelong Learning and the Open College of Arts (OCA) and she has recently been educational Advisor for Scotland (EDAD) for Windsor & Newton
